Emma is 2!

Let me start by saying that Emma-Elaine is basically the greatest thing that has ever happened to Derek and I. We love her so much. We love her spunky crazy wild personality. We love how she talks and runs around and does sommersaults when she gets excited. We love talking about all of the funny things she does each day before we go to sleep. She is such a smart little cookie and we just can't wait to see what she does next. Emma is also a very sweet girl. She gives us hugs and kisses when we're sad and has a way of brightening anyone's day. She even hugs those who might seem like they don't want a hug, but we know they do because they can't help but smile.
We love you Emma!
Emma's birthday was on the Sunday before we went to Martin's Cove so it was a bit crazy. We had a little celebration with our family and a few friends which ended up being close to 40 or 50 people. I lose track of how many came. That's what happens when you both come from families of 9 children. Emma woke up in the morning and sang "happy birthday to me!" She definitely knew it was her day. She is still saying happy birthday over a week later.
We'll have to get a better picture of this beautiful toy box Derek made for Emma. His mom is an artist and she painted on the top of it. Emma loves to pull her toys out of it and put them back. I hope that love continues.
Emma woke up just before everyone started arriving so she was a little confused but once we got the cake out she was very happy and content. Someone might love sugary goodness as much as her mother.

Emma blowing out the candles.

We made little flower people out of our holly hocks to put on the cake.

I wanted to be prepared so we made a cake and about 75 cupcakes. There were none left over!!

Emma got some cute dress up clothes for her birthday including these butterfly wings.

Emma doesn't like missing out on anything, especially on making her own cake and sampling it.

Happy Birthday Emma! And congratulations on having another girl on the way. I've loved having two of the same gender back-to-back - it's nice to not have to think too differently with Adam. Sticks, dirt, dinosaurs, cars - no problem! :)
